Need help - Super Urgent Bhaiiiiiiiiiiii
« on: October 08, 2010, 01:23:15 PM »
Dear Card bhai
My current outstanding with HSBC credit card is Rs. 1.16 lacs. I got a letter from a lawyer representing HSBC to clear off outstanding with his contact details mentioned on it. Since i wanted to deal with the bank i called up customer helpline and they offered to settle it at Rs 80000 and told me that my account details will show "Settled". Not satisfied with his response , i spoke to the number mentioned on the lawyer's letter and asked for settlement and he told me that the principal amount is Rs. 40000 which would be my settlement amount in case i wished to settle the same. My CIBIL record status would be shown as "Settled" only.
He asked me to get a DD made of Rs. 44000 and mail him a scanned copy of the same so that he can process the formalities. His email id was on HSBC domain. (Name@hsbc.co.in) so i guess he is also representing HSBC
My questions are :
1) I need to take a home loan in next two months time : Would "settled" account status affect my home loan approval process - if so,how? My other credit cards / bank accounts are absolutely clean.
2) This person has all the details pertaining to my account and his email id is on HSBC domain - would he be the right person to deal with for settlement?
3) How should i hand over the DD and what all documents / clearances should i need to take from him so that i am protected.

Pls advice
thanks for all ur help

1. Is it a Full and Final Settlement Offer sent via e-mail ? Make Sure it is so before you pay and get all the details like "Settled" A/C Closed etc to be reported to CIBIL in this Full and Final settlement letter for A/C XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX from HSBC.

2. OK if he is genuinely from HSBC, then send him the DD favoring HSBC Credit Card A/C XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX [This confirms you are paying to your A/C only]

3. "Settled" implies not fully paid but something was mutually agreed upon.

4. Affect on Home Loan - Depends on your current status. If you are salaried and have Rs 1 Lakh per month salary and availing home loan EMI of Rs 30,000 per month, bank may charge you extra say 100 bps [1% ] than normal home loan rate of interest. They may finance only 80% or lesser value of the home and ask you to cough up for 20% of Home Value as upfront. All depends on your current status [Financial Standing] and how well you can negotiate.

5. Once the HSBC thing is settled, get your Father, Brother, Wife etc to lend you a helping hand to get out from the Credit Trouble, if they have clean credit history and are willing to sign as Guarantors, Banks will do it in your favor. However, don't jump. Stabilize your Financial Standing and then take a well thought decision so that everybody around you is HAPPY.
