Reliance Retail’s losses, Vishal Retail’s debt problems and The Birla Group’s moves to rope in private equity players reflect the problems faced by India’s retail sector. India’s overall consumption story remains intact, we believe the retail sector’s worries are far from over. With smaller players struggling, we expect a round of consolidation in the sector.
